Howdy folks!
The new tariffs imposed by the USA on imports from Canada, Mexico & China went into effect on March 4th, 2025. Having heard a lot about these tariffs over the last few months I have worked to understand them & what they mean for your sticker orders. In doing so I also gathered a bunch of relevant information on importing Canadian goods into the USA; as many of my wonderful customers are in the USA & this info can be a lot to look through yourself.
I decided a blog post would be the best way to get the information across to folks, so welcome to the Little Lemur Blog! There will be more interesting posts in the future for sticker nerds to enjoy; for now let's dive into the tariff situation and how it affects you.
USA Import Fees & What Triggers Them:
Canada & the USA are close trade partners, & that comes with specific agreements on imported goods. These agreements contain some advantages for ecommerce shops, put in place so small business can thrive in a global economic environment. One such agreement is the "De Minimis Policy", which allows for shipments valued below $800 USD to enter the USA from Canada duty free. This also applies to the new tariff fees, which will only apply on specified imported goods above that $800 USD threshold.
So the general rule for American customers will be to keep your order below $800 USD, which in general is the case for the vast majority of orders on Little Lemur Stickers.
What About Price Increases From Chinese Materials & Goods?
Chinese made items have had their de minimis status revoked, which is quite unfortunate for many goods that Americans enjoy. Little Lemur exclusively uses ORAFOL vinyls, as they are of exceptional quality & we only use the best materials available for sourcing. ORAFOL vinyls are German made and as such no additional fees are applied importing them to Canada, or later the USA. Canada is the product origin for all Little Lemur Stickers, as that is where the product was created, using German vinyls that have been locally sourced from suppliers.
I should not see an increase in price for any materials from the tariffs coming into effect, and as such you will not see a price increase for your stickers.
Will My Shipments Take Longer To Arrive From Extra Screening?
It is more likely now than ever before that your shipment may be stopped at customs for extra screening. Little Lemur already provides all HS codes for imported goods to ensure a quick clearance through customs; however screening and security has increased exponentially with the implementation of new tariff rules and fees.
I would suggest that American customers place their orders with 2-5 days of extra time added to when you require your shipment to arrive; in case it gets stopped and inspected.
What This All Means For You
In conclusion, you should be cautious about what you are buying as an American customer these days, but your stickers should be safe and see no additional fees. If your order is below $800 USD you will not be charged for Import Duties or the 25% Tariff on Canadian goods. Little Lemur is also not increasing prices, as we should be mostly unaffected by the stricter tariffs applied on Chinese goods.
Feel free to leave a comment with questions you may have and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Wishing you all a great day, ill chat again soon!
